“Pop-Up” Pridefest

June 30, 2017, downtown Asheville, North Carolina.

Pop-up Pridefest

Asheville never leaves you disappointed. On my way back to my car (after giving up on finding anything of interest to photography), I spotted a small gathering of people just in front of the Masonic Lodge on Broadway. Basically, you could describe it as a “Pop-Up” Pridefest”, loosely organized to spontaneously burst upon the city of Asheville.

Pop-up Pridefest

The route made its way to Pack Square, and eventually to the Asheville Drum Circle at Pritchard Park. While capturing the event, it occurred to me how more accepting the public reaction was to something of this intensity. Not too long back, downtown Asheville was riddled with street preachers that infiltrated parks and street festivals to preach fear and condemnation of gays and lesbians.

Such anger still exists, but I feel that its days are numbered.
